The primary use of gloves is to provide protection for the hands. Gloves are used by doctors and nurses to avoid possible contamination from sick patients. They are used by homeowners to protect their hands from getting soiled when gardening, from getting in contact with corrosive cleaning agents, or just to take care of their hands when doing the laundry. Gloves are used in so many other cases by different people, but they all have one thing in mind: to take care of their hands.

There are, however, gloves available on the market that do not really protect the hands. In this case, the material used for the making of the gloves can also do damage to the hands of the wearer. It does not necessarily mean that people must have an allergic reaction to the glove material to be affected. A person can be exposed to varying degrees of abrasion depending on the material used for making the gloves. The glove material can be latex, kevlar fiber, polyester fiber, hybrid fibers of both polyester and cotton, leather and cotton.

From the various materials used to make gloves mentioned above, the cotton gloves are the most non-abrasive kind. There are, however, cotton gloves that have been combined with polyester and other materials to increase its performance. Though cotton gloves provide protection for the hands externally and internally, it does not provide protection from other sources of injury.

An example is in scuba diving, cotton gloves seem to be inefficient in protecting the hands from the cold of the deep sea. Though, it provides protection to the hands from the harmful salty content of seawater, it does not provide protection from the damaging cold temperature. This is where hybrid gloves are considered. Using hybrid cotton gloves, hand protection is within reach more than ever.
