Hats are worn by people to serve as a protection for the head from sunlight, to keep the hair from being a mess because of strong winds, to keep warm in cold weather, and simply to be fashionable. Throughout human history, hats evolved in various forms depending on its use and its purpose. The use of hats will depend heavily on its necessity while the purpose of hats can be identified as fashion, among other things.

As mentioned earlier, hats are not only used to create a personal identity, they are also used for protection. A summer hat is used for protection from sunlight while a winter hat is used for protection from the cold. Tropical countries use both a summer and a winter hat, for example, wide-brimmed hats and bonnets, respectively. There are countries, however, that only use either a summer or winter hat.

During the times of the Egyptians, it has a purpose to display power and authority to the one who wears it. Later periods of civilizations then used hats to display their own separate identity. Generation gaps are surpassed in a country by adapting a national costume. Since some countries have national costumes that includes wearing a head gear, these kinds of hats will last generation after generation.

That is why, countries can be depicted by their costumes and hats. An example of such a country is Russia, it has a winter hat called ushanka that is a fur cap that has ear flaps. Though, this winter hat is authentically Russian, it is also used by nearby cold regions such as Mongolia and North Korea. Hats will always be a part of human civilization; in fact, the Russian hat has not experienced any major change in design or color. Clothes can change because of fashion but these changes will always complement themselves with hats that have always been part of their daily lives.
